Chase Elliott cusses NASCAR for Indianapolis penalty (Video)

On Sunday, NASCAR raced on the 2.5-mile oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It marked the first race on the famed oval in years.
In stage one, Chase Elliott was running 2nd. He had one of the fastest cars early but things were about to go horribly wrong.
The first pit of the day was a green flag pit stop. NASCAR told drivers that the blend was off turn two.
Drivers must remain on the apron between turns 1-2. However, Elliott ran above the white line between turns 1-2.
NASCAR issued a drive-through penalty. And, Chase Elliott was pissed…
No. 9 Team Radio after blend line penalty
#9 Crew: “We just got a blend line violation.”
Elliott: “Where at?”
#9 Crew: “Turn two blend. They said you didn’t stay below the line.”
Elliott: “The exit of turn two?”
#9 Crew: “They need to give us some clarification on this.”
Elliott: “Where at?”
#9 Crew: “The verbiage is that you don’t have to stay below the line in the center of the corner.”
Elliott: “Yeah, I mean, that’s not right. I did exactly what the f****** sheet said to do.”
#9 Crew: “I completely agree. They need to give us an explanation here.”
#9 Crew: “They said turn two from the tower. The two officials are saying you went above the white live between turns 1 and 2.”
#9 Crew: “Yeah, they gave us confirmation that you can do that. So, I need an explanation from an official, why we’re getting a penalty.”
Elliott serves his penalty
After serving the penalty, Elliott remained mad…
Elliott: “I mean, what the f***! They send out the f****** sheet yesterday and do exactly what they f****** tell us to do.”
#9 Crew: “Stay below the second white line.”
Elliott: “They didn’t say line. They said racing surface. So you tell me how the f*** I was on the f****** racing surface.”
#9 Crew: “They’re wrong. Focus forward. Nothing we can do.”
#9 Crew: “In the future, if they’re not black flagging you, you don’t stop until I get it worked out.”
Elliott: “No, they were black flagging me.”
Elliott: “While those piece of s*** motherf****** are sitting up there not doing a f****** thing. Somebody tell me what I did wrong and how the verbiage they gave us tells me that was incorrect. Please.”
#9 Crew: “The 11 can’t even pass the 34th place car. If you can figure out what you need to pass him.”
Elliott: “If you can ship me a f****** physics defying button, that’d be great. Outside that, you’re f*****.”
Elliott: “They don’t define it. There was no line in there. They called it the racing surface.”
The No. 6 driven by Brad Keselowski was issued the same penalty. He did the same thing as Elliott during the first green flag pit cycle.
NASCAR comments on the penalty
“Every Thursday, out Truck Series director will send out the driver/Crew chief video for that weekend. It goes out to our Xfinity teams and then it will go out to our Cup teams,” Elton Sawyer stated via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.
“If you look at the video, it says you have to stay in the acceleration lane there, until you exit turn two then you blend up on the racetrack. Brad Moran and Wayne Auton both sent additional language to help clarify any confusion that may have come out of the video, that at no point could you go up on the racing surface.”
This is the same video that’s shown in the drivers’ meeting for the Cup Series.
“Communication is something we pride ourselves on. We want to make sure our drivers understand any nuances about a particular venue that is different.”
“We didn’t get a lot of questions back on the information that went to the teams. All but two, got them right.”
“Our office is open there at the trailer. Please come in, ask questions and we’ll try to clear that up. That’s the last thing you want to have happen is have a competitor have any type of misunderstanding of how the event’s going to be officiated.”
